Water Filters for Refrigerators
Most modern refrigerators are equipped with water dispenser. To maintain refreshingly clean drinking water, make sure that the refrigerator water filters are replaced regularly. Most filter manufacturer recommend it should be replaced at least six months from the time you first use it or maybe less depending on how often you use it and how many people are living in your house. Finding a replacement refrigerator water filter is easy especially with new models. On the other hand water filter for refrigerators with old model is maybe harder and chances are they are already obsolete and the manufacturer already stopped producing them. If you have an old model refrigerator and you can't find a water filter, the best thing to do is to buy an adaptor so you can use water filter from other brand or new model filters. You can also try looking at authorize service centers and dealers; usually they keep large volume of spare parts. If they don't have stock they can actually have them ordered it for you, remember that they have a direct communication with the factory and they can easily ask for it.
People say that original filter should only be use to make sure that they work properly. For example, if you have a GE refrigerator you should also use a GE water filter. I think that's not entirely true, if you will look closely, some parts of the refrigerator are actually come from other suppliers too. For example the light bulb probably came from a company who specializes in making lights and replacing them with other brand as long as they have the same rating will work perfectly fine. There are many third party companies who actually make water filters; most of these companies specialize in water treatment. The water filters they produce have the same quality with the original one and sometimes probably work even better. Remember that these companies specialize in making these types of filters. A good example is Brita and "Water Sentenel". Brita is a company that makes filtered water pitcher; they also manufacture refrigerator filters for GE, Frigidaire, Maytag, Jen-Air and Kenmore. Water Sentenel makes replacement filters for GE, Kenmore, Hotpoint, Whirlpool, Samsung and more.
If you really want original water filters and you don't want to take the risk on buying third party Replacement Parts then it's really up to you. If you are using Samsung then you should purchase Aqua Pure Plus water filters, if you own a GE then use a GE SmartWater water filters. Before purchasing water filter you know the exact model of the old one. For GE filters it should look something like GWF, GWFA, GWF01, GWF06 and MWFA, for Samsung it should look something like DA29-00003G or DA29-00003B. Also when buying a filter it is recommended to purchase an extra unit for spare for a quick replacement next time you need it and also to save on shipping cost if you want to purchase it online. When searching online you should include your location next to the keyword, example: Houston TX, Dallas TX, Ridgewood NY, Atlanta GA, Nashville TN, Carlstadt NJ, Berkeley IL, Lake Forest IL, Syracuse NY, Richmond, Cincinnati, Maryland, Texas, etc. This way you can save for shipping cost and sometimes you can even have free shipping.
