Ive moved into a house built in 1943 recently and in the laundry room is a huge double sink laundry tub.?
The laundry tub looks like it was just painted all white, even the faucets. Im looking to renovate the entire laundry room by tiling the floors and possibly painting or wall-papering the concrete block walls. Yet i don't know what i should do about the all white laundry tub. I want to give it some flair. One thought i had was taking the paint off the faucet and somehow making it shine silver. I need some suggestions?!!!
Paint remover will remove the paint on the faucet. If the tub looks painted, I'd bet dollars to donut holes that the paint will start coming off as soon as it gets wet and you'll see the reason they painted it. If you don't think you'll need it, remove it. If you want a utility sink, I'd replace the tub with a stainless sink. The walls should be painted with a water-proofing sealant before painting or papering. They sell a wallpaper that hides imperfections, such as the texture of concrete blocks (it will be in the very back of wallpaper books). You put it up, then put up your decorative wallpaper, being sure to offset the paper edges. Since you're going to the expense and trouble of tiling the floor, an idea might be to waterproof the walls, frame, insulate, put up a moisture barrier, and drywall the walls and ceiling for a completely finished room. Add any desired electrical outlets and ceiling light or make the existing ones flush with the new walls and ceiling. Be sure to get any building permits, inspections, and a plumber and electrician if you don't have that specialized knowledge, so the improvements are safe and legal. Most likely, the current electrical and plumbing don't meet today's codes and/or aren't positioned as effectively as they could be.
